Hayward, Wisconsin Area Activities
Four Seasons of Activities in Northern Wisconsin, Including ATV and Snowmobile Rentals
Situated just outside of Hayward, Wisconsin, Runamuk is at the epicenter of a northwoods vacation getaway. The entire region is teeming with old-fashioned family-owned establishments as well as an ample selection of activities and entertainment options suitable for all ages.
Dining & Shopping
If you decide to explore the many area eating establishments you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy the delicacies and entertainment offered by the street vendors at the many festivals and fairs the region is famous for. Visit any one of the many one-of-a-kind resorts, taverns and restaurants and sample delectable versions of trout, steak, hamburgers and pizza. Most venues are reasonably priced and offer some of the best and friendliest service around.
For the shopper…there are a multitude of antique and other types of quaint shops throughout the little towns and villages that dot the northwest Wisconsin landscape. Whether you are antiquing, scrap booking, craft or clothes shopping, the quaint main streets of these boroughs offer something special for everyone.
Our staff would be happy to recommend restaurants, shops, etc. Otherwise we can help you explore on your own.
Power-Sports (ATV & Snowmobile) Adventures
Runamuk Roost also runs a power sports ranch. We operate a fleet of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and snowmobiles. Guests who are properly licenses or meet the State of Wisconsin requirements are able to drive one of our power sports machines over a trail system that circumnavigates over a thousand miles of some of the most beautiful trails in the world. For longer outings our guides will bring you to one of the many vintage restaurants and resorts along the trails so you can eat and take a break.
Aside from the sheer thrill of riding on one of our late model machines you’ll get a chance to see forests, streams, lakes, rivers, terrain and wildlife from a trail perspective not experienced elsewhere. Bear, deer, wolf, bobcats, and eagles are just some of the animals that populate the region. Animal sightings are frequent although it’s important to remember it’s a wilderness area but not a zoo. To make things nicer we can also rent you a “helmet cam” so you can video (in HD) your excursion.
Runamuk provides basic operating instructions, machines that can handle one or two people, helmets, fuel, oil and an experienced trail guides. Introductory, half-day, full-day and multi-day programs are available. Wisconsin generally recognizes other State’s ATV and snowmobile licenses and in many instances licenses may not be required (but we highly recommend you get one). WI and many other states offer an on-line education (licensing) course for people who meet certain age requirements. Contact the WI Department of Natural Resources for requirements and course details.
There are many things to do right at the Runamuk Roost. Picnics, yard games, campfires, swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, biking, sun bathing, tubing, boating, etc are just a few. The snowmobile and ATV trails are quite close and easily accessed. Others prefer to star gaze at night through a telescope or simply sit and relax by a fire or grill. Indoors you can play board games, read, visit with friends around the fire in the stone fireplace, watch a movie or TV or surf the internet
Nearby off-sight outdoor activities include hundreds of miles of recreational trails (for power-sports and non-power-sports such as mountain biking, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking, etc.), championship & executive golf courses, multiple mini-golf courses, a vintage ice cream and vintage (and home-made) candy shop, canoeing or tubing, zoo, go-karts, the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame and a lumberjack village. Runamuk Roost can arrange for local transport, guides and gear rental for a whole host of activities.
